Should We Make the Gospel Easier to Accept?

Should We Make the Gospel Easier to Accept?
Jack Graham

There are many today who suggest that the church would be better off if we watered down the message of the Gospel for the sake of our witness.

These people say things like, “You’re too hard on people. Don’t be so dogmatic regarding Christ’s teaching. You’re going to run people off.”

Well, you know what? The very opposite is true. You and I have been given clear instruction and teaching in the Scripture on how we should behave and how we are to perpetuate Christ’s teachings in the world.

So what is our message and how do we present it to a hostile world?

Part of the message that we carry as Christ-followers states unapologetically that there is a right and wrong when it comes to cultural, ethical, and moral issues. It’s clearly written in God’s Word. And we’ve been given a message of hope and transformation that the world desperately needs to hear and to embrace.

So when you engage those whose opinions are diametrically opposed to yours, be respectful. But remember who you represent. We aren’t here to champion our own opinion, but to lift up Christ and his Truth!

Treasure and defend the hope and love that Christ has deposited within you! Never deny your faith but be faithful to lift up Christ Jesus! And when you do, he will draw men to himself!

“Democracy is Forbidden in Islam”

“Government should be only in the hands of Allah.”
by Khaled Abu Toameh

Why are radical Muslims opposed to the upcoming parliamentary election in Jordan?

Because they believe that democracy is in contradiction with Islam’s concept of the sovereignty of Allah’s law. They argue that Islam and democracy cannot go together, and they are obviously right, especially if one considers the experiences of people living under Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Thanks to the “Arab Spring,” which has seen the rise of Islamists to power in a number of countries, Muslim extremists today feel free to express their opinion on political and religious issues.

One of them, Abed Shehadeh, leader of the Salafi Jihadi movement in Jordan, ruled this week that democracy in its concept as “ruling of the people by the people” and “should be forbidden in Islam.”

Shehadeh, who is also known as Abu Mohammad Tahawi, explained that sovereignty and government belong to Allah alone and not to the people.

He said that the upcoming parliamentary elections, which are scheduled for January 23, were forbidden and contradictory to Islamic Shariah “because the parliament legislates laws and regulations that contradict Allah’s law.”

Shehadeh also criticized electoral programs presented by the candidates and lists. He said that the “the electoral slogans used by the candidates were “impossible to implement on the ground.”

He urged Jordanians to boycott the elections because “choosing legislators other than Allah is forbidden.”

The Salafi Jihadi leader’s call for boycotting the election does not seem to have fallen on deaf ears in Jordan, where many voters seem determined to boycott the vote.

Although it is banned in Jordan, the Salafi Jihadi movement has managed to recruit several thousand supporters over the past few years.

In April 2011, the movement held one of its largest demonstrations in the industrial town of Zarqa north of Amman. Eighty-three policemen were wounded, including four who were stabbed by Salafis.

It now remains to be seen whether the Salafi Jihadists will resort to violence to prevent or foil the parliamentary election.

Jordanian security officials have expressed deep concern over the radical movement’s involvement in the civil war in Syria. Dozens of Jordanian Salafis have crossed the border to join various Islamist terror groups waging Jihad [holy war] against Syrian dictator Bashar Assad’s regime.

The Jordanians’ biggest fear is that when the Salafis are done with Syria, they will intensify their efforts to turn the kingdom into an Islamic state.

The Jordanian Salafis who are fighting in Syria are not seeking to install democracy. Nor are they seeking to enable Syrians to hold free and democratic elections to choose their representatives. As their leader, Shehadeh, explained, democracy and elections are forbidden in Islam.

The Salafis, like other radical Islamist groups, want to establish an Islamic empire and impose strict Shariah laws on Arabs and Muslims. They are convinced that sovereignty and “government should be only in the hands of Allah,” who has entrusted them with serving as his representatives and messengers on earth.

If God is all-powerful, why does He not just kill Satan?

One of the mysteries of the Christian life is why God didn’t destroy Satan immediately after Satan sinned. We know that God will one day defeat Satan by throwing him into the Lake of Fire where he will be tortured day and night forever (Revelation 20:10), but sometimes we wonder why God has not destroyed Satan already. Perhaps we will never know God’s exact reasoning, but we do know certain things about His nature.

First, we know God is absolutely sovereign over all creation, and this includes Satan. Certainly, Satan and his demons wreak havoc in the world, but they are only allowed a certain amount of freedom. We also know that God has planned everything from the beginning of time to the end. Nothing can thwart His plans, and things are proceeding exactly on schedule. “The LORD of hosts has sworn: ‘As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand’” (Isaiah 14:24).

Second, “we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). Whatever God has planned for Satan, that plan will be the best one possible. God’s perfect wrath and justice will be satisfied, and His perfect righteousness will be glorified. Those who love Him and who wait for His plan to be fulfilled will be thrilled to be part of that plan and will praise and glorify Him as they see it unfold.

Third, we know that to question God’s plan and its timing is to question God Himself, His judgment, His character and His very nature. It is not wise to question His right to do exactly as He pleases. The psalmist tells us, “As for God, His way is perfect” (Psalm 18:30). Whatever plan comes from the mind of the Almighty is the best plan possible. It is true that we can’t expect to understand that mind perfectly, as He reminds us, “‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ says the LORD. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts’” (Isaiah 55:8-9). Nevertheless, our responsibility to God is to obey Him, to trust Him, and to submit to His will, whether we understand it or not. In the case of His timing for Satan’s demise, it has to be the best possible plan because it is God’s plan.

Does he know

It is the very fact that he was raised in Indonesia during his formative years that is concerning. He clearly has an affinity for Muslim countries and Muslim culture. Does he have an affinity for AMERICAN people and AMERICAN culture? The concern then becomes can he truly represent Americans if he does not understand us?

Does he have an understanding of who the Founding Fathers were? Christians and God-fearing men, many of whom were ordained ministers? Does he know why the Founding Fathers chose to set up our government the way they did? To preserve the Freedom OF Religion –not Freedom FROM Religion?

Does he know that George Washington dedicated the newly born nation of the United States of America to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to Christ? (On the very ground at Ground Zero!)

And that Washington said that if we, as a nation, should ever abandon God, God should remove the hedge of protection which He bestowed upon our fledgling nation? Does he recognize that 9/11 was the first lifting of that hedge? and that the financial collapse of 2008 was the second?

Does he understand that our nation is in danger of the judgment of God for the murder of our own children whose blood cries out from our landfills? Does he know that 3 different American leaders have pronounced pending judgment on the United States ALREADY. And that we must turn away from the ways of the world?

Does he understand that as our President he should be leading us as a nation in repentence, like Abraham Lincoln did, and lead us in a rededication to God and His ways? Does he understand that our purpose is to be a shining city on the hill for all the world to see?

Does he understand that though the United States is not perfect it has the best form of government in the world? That America IS exceptional . . . not because we are better people but because we have a Great God.

Does he know that America was never meant to placed under the authority of the world system but that it was meant to be separate and apart to God? Does he understand that the Founding Fathers preserved our Right to Bear Arms for the reason that a People cannot preserve their Freedom if the do not have the means to do so?

Does he understand the reason for the separation of powers that Congress makes the Laws and the Executive branch makes sure they are carried out? That the Executive branch does NOT make the Laws! It can suggest, prompt, encourage, and admonish, but it does NOT make the Laws. That usurping the power of Congress and the individual states WEAKENS the country? And that concentrating all the power in a few hands is dangerous?

Does he realize that we cannot make our country safe or prosperous if we cannot control who comes in or out of it? That the rule of Law is there to protect the citizens of the United States and as president his fidelity is to Americans first and foremost, however tragic the circumstances of those in other countries. If the United States falters under the burden of debt, we will not be able to help the very people we desire to help because we are crippled ourselves.

Does he know that Americans are the most generous people in the world? And that taking money from them to give to someone else is not the answer! Does he know that America was built on the idea that anyone –anyone can succeed if he works at it hard enough?

Does he Love this country like we do and understand that we do not love a “mere flag” but honor our flag because of what it represents! That we Love our nation of immigrants who are diverse but UNITED in our dedication to our Laws, our Constitution and our God?
And that we do not “cling to our God during times of trouble” . . . we cling to Him every moment, for every breath!

Does he know that just as America is a country under God’s authority, so also is Israel? and that to abandon Israel is to doom ourselves? God said, “I will bless those who bless you. And i will curse those who curse you.” That we bless or doom ourselves by how we treat Israel.

Christian Americans should know all this and more.
